Online Dungeons & Dragons Group for Neurodivergent Teens

Counsellor & Dungeon Master Led | Therapeutic Social Skills Through Roleplay

Our online Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) group for teens is a structured, therapist-supported social program that uses collaborative storytelling and guided roleplay to build real-world communication and connection skills. Each group is co-led by a qualified counsellor and an experienced Dungeon Master, ensuring sessions are both clinically grounded and genuinely engaging.

This is not just a game, it’s a supported social learning environment where neurodivergent teens can practise interaction, confidence, and teamwork in a format that feels safe, motivating, and fun.

Who It’s For

This group is designed for neurodivergent teens, including those with:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Social anxiety

  • Communication differences

  • Low social confidence

  • Difficulty making or maintaining friendships

No prior D&D experience is required, beginners are welcome.

Why Dungeons & Dragons Works So Well for Neurodivergent Teens

D&D provides a natural framework for practising social and emotional skills because it is:

Structured but flexible; There are rules, turns, and roles, which reduce social uncertainty while still allowing creativity and self-expression.

Motivating and interest-based; Teens are more willing to communicate and participate when the format is fun and meaningful.

Role-based; Speaking “in character” can reduce social pressure and performance anxiety.

Collaborative; Players must listen, plan, negotiate, and problem-solve together.

Story-driven; Emotional insight, perspective-taking, and consequences are built into the narrative.

What Parents Often Notice

Parents often share that their teen finds it easier to engage socially when interaction happens through shared storytelling and structured play. Because D&D provides a clear framework and defined roles, many participants feel more comfortable speaking, contributing ideas, and collaborating with peers.

Over the course of the program, families commonly notice:

  • Increased willingness to communicate

  • Greater confidence speaking in a group

  • Improved frustration tolerance

  • More flexible thinking

  • Better teamwork and cooperation

  • Stronger peer connection

  • Increased motivation to attend sessions

  • Skills beginning to generalise outside the group

Progress looks different for every teen, but consistent supported practice in a positive peer environment can make a meaningful difference over time.
